John Llewellyn is a retired Dairy Farmer who left the industry following the introduction of Milk quotas. While he and his wife were waiting for planning permission to create self-catering holiday units, he took up wood turning as a hobby, having like most people tried a couple of pieces while at school. This has developed from a small lathe driven by a Black & Decker drill to a workshop with three lathes catering for larger objects, a Band Saw for cutting his own blanks and because of the use of more exotic timbers he now needs full dust extraction facilities.
Although full use is made of local hardwoods, many exotic timbers from the far corners of the wood are purchased from specialist suppliers.
Clocks, barometers, bowls, pot pourri pots, light pulls, coasters, cheese boards, candle lamps and nut crackers are all produced as unique items. Commissions are undertaken, and John is prepared to give lessons in this most fascinating of crafts.
Sue Llewellyn  studied Fine Arts at Reading University, where she met John. When she left University she worked for Butterworths the publishers in their publicity department. After their marriage there was little time between feeding calves or daughters for her to do much painting until they set up their present business.

Sue was a founder member of Wye Valley Crafts, and now tends to specialise in animal portraits, mainly dogs, being involved in the world of dog shows. She paints water colours, and also acrylics on wooden items, e.g. bellows, boxes, spatulas etc.
